Service Deployment Platform

In addition to giving you the ability to directly manage your machines, PlanetWorks DVM technology utilizes a very lightweight container-based network virtualization solution that allows you to deploy any number of network services onto any subset of the machines under your control.

Deploying, updating or removing a service is easy with the slice paradigm employed by our DVM technology. A network administrator with appropriate access privileges may log into a simple web interface and create an allocation of network resources, called a slice, that includes a set of machines, an allocation of memory, CPU power and disk space on each machine, and an aggregate bandwidth allotment. A network service can then be deployed to any set of nodes assigned to the slice.

The network administrator can then assign slice administrative privileges to people in charge of a particular service. When a slice administrator then logs into their slice in order to deploy, update or remove their service, it appears to them that they have an entire network, consisting of the resources assigned to the slice by the network administrator, available for their service. The slice administrator can now remotely deploy, troubleshoot, update or remove his service to any of the machines in this virtual network. In the end, the network administrators maintain ultimate control, with the ability to lock up any slice whenever necessary.

The slice paradigm, in addition to providing a powerful way of administering network services, also makes it possible to guarantee resource allocations to multiple services running on the same machines. This means that network administrators can dynamically set QOS guarantees for individual services running in their network.
